Dare to Dream Bold
"Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice."
As humans we all have the unquenchable desire to dream of a better life. How do you see your life and career five years from now?
In just 3650 days, 10 years will have passed, how do you intend spending your days 10 years from now?
Remember : the life you live in the future will be the result of today's dreams and actions.
It is easy to fall into a rut, spending each day responding to life's urgencies and the demands of others whilst forgetting that we are the designers of our own lives. What dreams do you have for your life and for your career or business? Where would you like to see yourself in 10 or 20 years time? What have you always dreamed about doing but felt too scared to try?
If this seems a little daunting, remember as children we were expert dreamers, so grab a pen and answer the questions under the eight headings below and dare to DREAM BIG!
1. Career/Work
Describe your ideal day at work, what sort of people would you like to work with? What's your working environment like? Who are your ideal customers?
2. Health & Fitness
What does your ideal self look and feel like? What do you want your level of fitness to be? What health or wellness goals do you have?
3. Personal Relationships
What sort of relationship would you like to be in? If you are married or in a relationship, how could that relationship be even better? What sort of person do you have to be, for your ideal relationship to flourish?
4. Surroundings
What are your ideal living arrangements? Where is your house (or houses) located? What does it look like? Write out a description of it, as it would appear in a property supplement?
5. Financial Success
What annual income would you like to generate? What investments would you like to have and how much are you saving each month? How would you like to contribute to others through your financial success?
6. Friends and Family
What friendships would you like to develop? Who should you be spending more time or less time with? Ideally, how would you like your relationship with your family to be?
7. Personal Development
What skills or knowledge would you like to learn or enhance? How would you like to develop as a person? How can you achieve greater balance in your life?
8. Fun
If you could do anything just to have a blast, what would it be? What experiences do you want to enjoy and savour? If you were living life to the max, what would you be doing? What sort of holidays do you want to go on? What hobbies appeal to you? How can you get the most out of your free time?
One reason many dreams never go anywhere is because the dreamer keeps it to himself. If you want to achieve your dreams you must start by sharing your dreams with others. As you share them, you will begin to believe in them more and more. Sharing your dreams means you will be accountable for following through and as no dream is achieved in isolation you never know how others may be able to assist you.
A dream without a plan remains a wish. By writing down your dreams, chunking them into short-term milestones and placing a timescale on them, your dreams become goals and you are far more likely to notice events, conversations and coincidences that will help you take a step closer to your dream.
As a rule, the most successful people are also the hardest working. While the rest of the world are slouched in front of the TV watching other people live their dreams, achievers are working on their goals, achieving their own dreams.
Life is too short not to pursue your dreams. Someday your life will near its end and all you will be able to do is look back. You can reflect with joy or regret. The best way to predict the future is to create it. Don't be like most people who in the words of Henry David Thoreau (US author) 'lead lives of quiet desperation and go to their grave with their song still in them.'
