Fuel your Soul

We know that money doesn’t buy you happiness, and in these challenging economic times we shouldn’t even try.
I’ve delivered a number of workshops in recent weeks on the topic of ‘fuelling your soul’, the phrase I use for those activities that make us feel fulfilled, strong and vibrant. The beauty of it is that most of these activities are free or cost very little. Someone else might call them simple pleasure of life – I call them living.

With the summer months all about relaxation and rejuvenation there is no better time to discover practical ways of ‘fuelling your soul.’

Think back over the last few months, what were the things or activities that made you the happiest. I would venture that most of these didn’t involve handing over big amounts of cash.
From my own experience and from the experiences of those who have shared their views on the topic with me, here are some great ways to fuel your soul, that won’t break the bank.

  • 1. Going for a walk in nature.
  • 2. Curling up with an inspirational book (free if you get one from the library or borrow from a friend.)
  • 3. Listening to your favourite up-lifting music.
  • 4. Relaxing with a cup of coffee and a pastry.
  • 5. Picking up a glossy magazine and reading it from cover to cover.
  • 6. Catching up with an old friend
  • 7. Packing a picnic and heading off for an adventure
  • 8. On a sunny day, eating out-doors – it’s like being on holidays.
  • 9. Strolling along a beach.
  • 10. Better yet, going for a paddle in the sea.
  • 11. Visiting a museum or art gallery, most are free. If I’m looking to boost my creativity I surround myself by others creativity and hope it rubs off!
  • 12. Turn off the TV and turn on the radio
  • 13. Create a vision board by cutting pictures and images from magazines that inspire you.
  • 14. Draw, paint, doodle, release your creativity.
  • 15. Soak in a bubble bath.
  • 16. Play with children – become a child again for an hour.
  • 17. When was the last time you were on a bicycle, combine your childhood with a cycle through nature.
  • 18. Grab the camera and capture family members.

Many people live life by accident, drifting from day to day. We can similarly find ourselves savouring specific moments by accident, but if you know what inspires you, what makes you feel good, why not purposefully spend more time involved in those activities.
With the stresses and strains of modern life, fuelling our soul more consciously will not just boost your energy and enhance your motivation it will also make you feel stronger, it quietens the mind and arms you to respond more effectively to the situations life throws at you.
Go on, you deserve it.

‘Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away.’
