6 Common limiting beliefs & how to overcome them

Limiting Belief 1

I must always have the love, respect and approval of all the people I deem significant.

Replace with:
If I love I am significant. We cannot control other people; we can only control how we relate to them.

Limiting Belief 2

I must always be competent at everything I do.

Replace with:
No one is perfect, but I’m perfectly myself. If I fall down, I will pick myself up and learn from the experience.

Limiting Belief 3

Emotional misery comes from external pressures and events.

Replace with:
I cannot control all the events in my life, but I have the freedom to choose my response to them.

Limiting Belief 4

I don’t have the ability to change, or I have little control, my own feelings.

Replace with:
I am in control of my own thinking, my own focus, my emotions, my own body language and my responses to stimuli.

Limiting Belief 5

If something seems fearsome of threatening, I must preoccupy myself with it and feel anxious about it.

Replace with:
I cannot control the uncontrollable, but I can control my response.

Limiting Belief 6

My past is very important, it determines who I am today and who I am in the future.

Replace with:
I will learn from my past, but at any given moment I choose who I am now and who I will be in the future.
