6 Common limiting beliefs & how to overcome them
Limiting Belief 1
I must always have the love, respect and approval of all the people I deem significant.
Replace with:
If I love I am significant. We cannot control other people; we can only control how we relate to them.
Limiting Belief 2
I must always be competent at everything I do.
Replace with:
No one is perfect, but I’m perfectly myself. If I fall down, I will pick myself up and learn from the experience.
Limiting Belief 3
Emotional misery comes from external pressures and events.
Replace with:
I cannot control all the events in my life, but I have the freedom to choose my response to them.
Limiting Belief 4
I don’t have the ability to change, or I have little control, my own feelings.
Replace with:
I am in control of my own thinking, my own focus, my emotions, my own body language and my responses to stimuli.
Limiting Belief 5
If something seems fearsome of threatening, I must preoccupy myself with it and feel anxious about it.
Replace with:
I cannot control the uncontrollable, but I can control my response.
Limiting Belief 6
My past is very important, it determines who I am today and who I am in the future.
Replace with:
I will learn from my past, but at any given moment I choose who I am now and who I will be in the future.
