1. By being genuinely interested in others, others will be interested in you.


2. Let the other person do most of the talking. Remember the best conversationalists are the best listeners.


3. Smile. It is difficult to create rapport with someone who scowls.


4. Practice how you introduce yourself.


5. Repeat other person’s name so you will remember it. Know that a person’s name is the most important word in any language.


6. We all like positive feedback, so make the other person feel important, do it sincerely and they will remember you for it.


7. To shine in other people’s eyes, resist the temptation to shine in their eyes.


8. Show respect for the other person’s opinions. Never say you’re wrong.


9. If you are in business, always have your business cards with you. Don’t offer them, wait until the other person asks.


10. People gravitate to people who understand them. Be empathetic and become known as someone who can listen, understand and offer advice.


11. If you do make good contacts, be sure to keep in touch with them.


12. Networking is not sales. Don’t be too pushy. It is a chance to uncover future opportunities.
