Coaching

The Coaching Relationship

Coaching sessions provide a safe, reflective, supportive, yet challenging and focussed environment that encourages the raising of self-awareness. The coaching environment is a non-judgemental and a confidential one.

Coach and Client are both 100% responsible for the success of the coaching relationship.

It is therefore worth reflecting on:

  • How do you want to use your coach?
  • Do you want assignments to carry out between coaching sessions?
  • Do you want to be held accountable for the actions you agree to undertake?

Working Assumptions

As your coach, I work with the following assumptions:

  • You have the answers but as your coach I have the questions that will aid your learning and enhance your focus.
  • There is no such thing as failure - only feedback and learning.
  • You are committed to the coaching process and are willing and able to invest time and energy to the process.
  • You have control over the agenda of each coaching session. As your coach, I oversee the coaching process.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a key factor in the coaching contract. Your details will never be disclosed to a third party.

Permissions

The coaching relationship is different from general business relationships. As your coach, I will interrupt you, if I feel this is necessary. This interruption might be considered rude in polite conversation, but it is a powerful aspect of the coaching conversation.

How to get the most from coaching

In addition to handouts I may give you during coaching sessions, you might consider keeping a personal journal to record your own notes, insights, and actions agreed after each section. It will aid your learning and be a record of your coaching experience.

Take a few moments before each session to contemplate what you would like to achieve by the end of the session. Set aside time (twenty minutes) between sessions to reflect on your progress. It is my experience that it is between coaching sessions that progress is most noticeable.

Location

Sometimes it is convenient for coaching sessions to take place at your place of work. However, it is generally recommended that coaching takes place away from the workplace to create 'physic distance' and to assist in exploring work situations from an objective position.

We work from Alexandra House in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. Turn left at the Toyota garage, after you cross the actual bridge in Ballsbridge as you head out of town on the Merrion Road. We are based in the last building on the right hand side, after Eagle Star and Goodbodys.

Finally

The one thing all coaching clients have in common is that they are seeking change of some sort, be it enhanced time management skills, improved communication skills, better work/life balance or simply more confidence. As your coach, my agenda during each session is your agenda.
