So you don't have the time?
Time and health are our two most precious assets, but most people don’t realise this until both have been depleted.

So if you have a tendency to worry about the things you want to do, but can't, instead of doing the things you can do, but don't? (you might want to read that last sentence again!) Read on.

Are you what you eat?
If you are what you eat, what are you?

Just like an engine, what you consume is a vital factor in terms of your energy levels and overall health. It is easy to over complicate the subject of nutrition, but you can keep it simple.

Click here to discover 10 simple ways to enhance your energy levels this summer.

Top Tips
10 Top Tips for Getting in Shape this Summer

1. Persistence
Without persistence you will never achieve lasting results. In a study carried out over a 10 year period in the US by The National Metabolic and Longevity Research Center they found that persistence is the single most important aspect of any diet or fitness program.

2. Don't take bad advice.
As the saying goes ‘don’t seek directions from someone who has never left home.’ Only take the advice of those people who look fit and healthy themselves and who are knowledgeable about the subject.

3. Increase the number of meals but reduce the portion size.
Your stomach is only the size of your clenched fist, so watch portion sizes. Healthy eating is not about starving yourself, it is eating well and regularly, fueling the body with the nutrients it needs.

The Benefits of ChiRunning
A conversation with top Irish athlete
Catherina McKiernan

In the November 2005 edition of Next Steps I shared with you my experience of running a marathon. Since then I had struggled with a recurring knee injury but earlier this year I came across ChiRunning which has transformed my approach to running and has enhanced my performance in other areas of life as well.

James Sweetman & Catherina McKiernan (with the former looking a little flushed after being put through his paces.)

The only practitioner of ChiRunning in Ireland is Catherina McKiernan, who in the 1990’s was not only Ireland’s but one of the worlds top female distance runners. Among the many milestones in her career were famous victories in the London, Amsterdam and Berlin Marathons and four silver medals, in successive years, in the World Cross Country Championship.

Catherina, what exactly is ChiRunning?

ChiRunning is the correct mechanics for running to make it effortless and injury free. It is not running but the way you run that causes injury. If your body movement is incorrect, you are going to get injured.
ChiRunning also increases mental clarity and focus, enhancing the joy of running, and transforming running into a safe and effective lifelong program for health, fitness, and general well-being.

Some readers may be unfamiliar with the concept of Chi.

Chi (pronounced chee) is energy, the life giving energy that unites body, mind and spirit. We all have it. When your Chi is strong, balanced, flowing and focused you exude energy and good health.

Read the rest of the interview with Catherina, learn more about ChiRunning and discover the benefits of ChiWalking.

Private sessions with Catherina McKiernan cost €50 and last approximately 75 minutes, which is exceptional value. Further information on ChiRunning is available at www.chirunning.com and if you are interested in booking a session with Catherina chick here.
Catherina McKiernan's biography 'Running for my life' is availbable in all major book stores.

Final Thought
“Like a computer that goes into sleep mode when it isn’t being used, many people settle into a state of lethargy and interpret their lack of energy as a sign that their bodies needs to be shut off or rested when in reality, it is crying out to be used.”

Stu Mittleman (Endurance Athlete who ran a 3000 mile journey across American in 56 days, running more then 2 marathons a day for 56 consecutive days and was over 50 when he did it!)
