Does the phrase ‘doing an interview’
send a shiver down your spine? Read on to learn some key interview
preparation strategies as well as the questions you should be
able to answer before attending an interview.
Most people will do on average 10 interviews over the course
of their career, either for new roles or promotions. If you
work for yourself you may not be doing interviews in the traditional
sense, but isn’t every sales meeting an interview!

It is easy to forget that the purpose of an
interview is for the company to find out more about you and
to determine whether you have the skills, experience, and potential
to succeed in the role. They also want to discover if you will
blend into their organisation easily and effectively. A good
interviewer is not trying to trip you up, though for senior
positions the interviewer may want to know how you respond under
stress.

BEFORE GOING INTO AN INTERVIEW
In the eyes of the interviewer, you need to
look like you could walk straight into the job. So dress as
someone already working in the role would dress. Don’t
overlook what you might consider small details. For example,
ensure your finger nails, hair and clothes are clean. Polish
your shoes. I’m sure you wouldn’t want dirty nails
or bad breathe to be the first thing an interviewer thinks of
when he or she thinks of you.

CONFIDENCE DURING AN INTERVIEW.
In the States it is becoming increasingly
common for HR to ask receptionists about job candidates’
conduct whilst waiting in reception. Receptionists get an eyeful
of your behind-the-scenes behavior, before you put on your game
face and step into the interviewer's office. If you are abrupt
in the lobby, expect the interviewer to hear about it.
