At the end of the day- a mirror of questions

By the late John O'Donoghue from his book Benedictus

What dreams did I create last night?

Where did my eyes linger today?

Where was I blind?

Where was I hurt without anyone noticing?

What did I learn today?

What did I read?

What new thoughts visited me?

What differences did I notice in those closest to me?

Who did I neglect?

What we can learn from the Olympics

The excitement of competition. Seeing the best athletes in the world strive to reach the pinnacle of their sports. This year’s Olympics in Beijing were a great spectacle.

For the observant, there are many business and personal development lessons we can learn from the Olympics. This article explores just five.

Find out if you have the Olympic spirit and how you can adapt the 'gold medal' mindset to your career, business or life in general.

Winning only measures how hard you have worked and how talented you are, it doesn’t particularly define you beyond those characteristics. Losing on the other hand really does say something about who you are. Among the things its measures are; do you blame others or do you own the loss? Do you analyse the failure or just complain about bad luck.  - Lance Armstrong

Taking Control

Stress, frustration, overwhelm and worry are all symptoms of one common cause. That cause is the feeling of not being in control.
This article identifies 5 ways to gain (or regain) greater control of your life.

Stop blaming the economy

In recent months we have been bombarded by talk of ‘the recession’ and the ‘downturn.’ How much of this is reality? How much is a self-fulfilling prophesy?

Yes, there is a correction in the market economy, it is part of the natural economic cycle. But is business and trade coming to halt? Are people no longer buying goods and services? No, of course not.

And finally...

“Would you please tell me which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get." – said the cat
"I don’t much care where." - said Alice
"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go." – said the cat.

Welcome to the Sept. '08 edition of Next Steps

I really enjoyed watching this year's Olympics. I was almost inspired to dust down my trainers and prepare for another marathon. Instead I thought about the personal and business development lessons we can all learn from the Olympics, hence the lead article.

I have chosen not to participate in the 'recession' and in the article 'Stop blaming the economy' I share with you some strategies for recession proofing your mind and your business.

An article on 'Taking Control' and a poem by the late John O'Donoghue complete this months Next Steps.

Enjoy.
