I facilitate training workshops in a range of other ‘soft skills’ areas. The topics below can represent a standalone programme, or elements of them can be combined to create your own customised training solution.

Communication Skills

You can only motivate, influence and lead those around you if you are a skilled communicator. As I see it, communication is really about conversations and authentic interactions between human beings and this is a theme emphasised during my training.

Some of the areas typically explored during my communication skills workshops are-

  • Why you are ‘never not communicating’ – the role of body language and what your body language says about you
  • How to ensure people buy-in to your ideas by adopting the best communication strategies
  • The role of Emotional Intelligence (EI)
  • Impactful questions – how new questions lead to new answers and insights

Quick Communication Skills Tips

We will often spend time planning what we want to say at a meeting, but we usually plan statements, not questions. Give some thought in advance to the questions you could pose that would stimulate discussion or open the door to new insights.If you are communicating an agenda for a meeting, go a step further by framing the items on the agenda as questions, not statements. For example, change ‘Customer Service Enhancements’ as an agenda item, to ‘How can we ‘wow’ our customers?’ This simple action will dramatically improve the effectiveness of your meetings.

Work Life Balance

Work/life balance typically means redressing the imbalance between the considerable amount of time and energy devoted to ‘work’ and the time (and head-space) left over for personal life. Work/life balance is no longer about physical locations, or even defined ‘working’ hours. Today, work/life balance is really about work/life management and work/life blending.

During workshops in this area I share useful tips and insights (including ways to quieten a busy mind), but the real benefit comes from the fact that I stimulate people’s thinking, so they can find their own solutions to their specific challenges.

Questions to stimulate your thinking

  • Does the way you spend your time reflect what’s important to you?
  • Outside of the office, does your blackberry or mobile phone get more attention than your family or friends?
  • Have you typecast yourself?
  • What one thing do you need to do less of which would make a difference?

Team-building

How can I turn my group of people into a team? How can we encourage people to support, not undermine each other? These questions are the driving forces behind my work in the area of team-building.

In the same way as customers volunteer their business, employees volunteer their skills, resourcefulness, enthusiasm and loyalty. I love to assist companies in harnessing the potential that exists within their workforce and to help them create working relationships that fulfils the needs of both employer and employee.

My team building workshops are practical and focused on real business issues, whist at the same time encourage people to be themselves and to have fun.

Quick Tip

One of the ‘rules’ of people management and teamwork is ‘we cannot change other people, we can only change how we relate to them.’ So, if you are seeking something different from others, you have to do something differently, you have to relate to others differently.

Personal Branding – How to Market Yourself

Personal Branding is the process of taking your skills, personality and unique characteristics and packaging them into a powerful identity.

Everything we do (and often don’t do) impacts our brand. We all have reputations, but reputations just happen – we can create and shape our personal brand. In this workshop I will show you how.

Questions to start you thinking about your Personal Brand

  • What is the experience you want others to have when they interact with you?
  • How can you shape your reputation more consciously?
  • What words do you want colleagues to use to describe their experience of working with you?
